Adventure in Odyssey’s 90 Devotions for Kids

As a mom, I’m constantly on the lookout for great devotional books to share with my son. Adventures in Odyssey’s 90 Devotions for Kids meets many of the criteria I desire in a kids-focused devotional book.

For starters, this  book can easily be used by parents to establish a solid foundation and understanding of many biblical principles. I particularly like how the book is divided into 13 themes, which include topics like salvation, prayer, forgiveness, giving, worship, and serving others. For each weekly theme, children are encouraged to memorize a Bible verse tied to the topic.

Each devotion consists of a daily verse, a short story related to the topic, a biblical explanation of the story,  a daily challenge for kids to apply what they learned, and a sidebar featuring an Adventures in Odyssey character’s take on the topic (e.g., “Connie’s Corner”, “Whit and Wisdom”, “Wandering with Wooton”). Not only do the daily devotions give a solid biblical foundation for kids, but they also are engaging and silly at times.

I read several devotions to my son and was pleased with his interest and understanding of biblical principles covered.  As an adult, I even took away valuable insights. Some of the discussions and daily challenges seem to be targeted to older elementary school aged children, but I still think it’s possible for parents of younger children (like me) to use this devotional book. To make it age appropriate, you may need to explain some concepts or adjust some of the daily challenges.

I highly recommend this book for elementary school aged children, especially for those (like my son) who love listening to the Adventures in Odyssey audio series.

Disclosure: I received this book for free from the publisher’s book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
