“As bizarre as it may sound, I feel like this cancer is quite possibly one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Yes, the treatment is horrible and my life as I knew it has been put on hold indefinitely, but it has made me reevaluate a lot of the things I once held dear. It’s made me appreciate my family and friends so much more and realize that possessions mean squat when you’re faced with the real possibility of dying. Most importantly, it has made me aware that the God I believe in is so much bigger and so much closer to me than I ever could have imagined.”

Few books have moved and inspired me in the way that Days Like These by Kristian and Rachel Anderson has.
This book tells the story of Kristian Anderson, who at the age of thirty-four, was diagnosed with cancer of the bowels and liver. As he underwent treatment, this husband and father of two boys under the age of three shared his thoughts and experiences on a blog he created. His story became known to many worldwide after he made a video for his wife, Rachel, to express his love for her. Days Like These includes entries from Kristian’s blog during his two-year fight against cancer, with additions by Rachel.
This heartbreaking, yet beautiful and hopeful story shows how to trust God in the most challenging of times and cherish those beloved people God has placed in your life. It shares the day-to-day realities of fighting cancer—the ups and downs of test results, the difficulties of dealing with side effects of chemo, radiation, and drugs to manage the cancer, and the deep desire to live and conquer the cancer. Kristian’s unshakable faith and trust in God are beautifully woven in this story and will surely inspire and encourage all who read it.
I chose to read this book, in part, because two years ago my family stood by my dad’s side as he fought stage 4 cancer. Days Like These reminded me how important it is to treasure the loved ones in your life and to draw closer to Jesus.
I highly recommend this life-changing book.
