Colorful Tales

Last summer, my nine-year-old son and I read Katherine Applegate’s The One and Only Ivan. This lovely tale with beautiful writing and endearing characters captured my heart. I cried and laughed and cried some more as I read this thought-provoking children’s story. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it for both children and adults.

As a writer, one of my favorite lines in the book is when Ivan, a captive gorilla living in a shopping mall and the novel’s main character, shares the following about the types of stories he likes:

Doesn’t that sum up a great way to write a fabulous story?!
